Ever imagined how can someone be immortal ?.

It is a fact that no one can live forever everyone’s life span has an end date, but some things which we leave behind may be remembered for a very long time, it may not only be our progeny it could be our ideology too.

It all started when 2.5million Indian soldiers were allied to Great Britain in 1939 to fight World War 2. British Indian army was fighting all over the world, some against Germany while some against Italy. However, the bulk of the British Indian army was fighting Japanese forces. Records and statistics say by the end of the war more than 87000 Indian soldiers lost their lives.

One of them was Badluram. It was the time when the battle was in a rage with the Japanese and Badluram was shot dead. The supplies including food given were limited for countable number of soliders for example one rice bag for one soldier for this much time, Amind this the quarter master was smart enough to make a move and he did not report the death of Badluram by which supplies didnt stop on his account and hence the supplies of Badluram were saved in stock. Then the D Day came when the Japanese planned their final and biggest attack and laid a siege. They cut off all the supply lines by which Indian soldiers would fall in grave danger if their stocks of food and ammunition were completely utilsed. During this time of crisis the saved supplies of Badluram were used and the soldiers survived the seige, eventually Indian forces won the war. This ideology of the quarter master continued as he never reported deaths again to save the supplies and hence saved enough ration and ammunition. This made Badluram and his sacrifice immortal. One when dies leaves a body behind and many stories to remember one such soldier was Badluram and the smart quarter master.

The regimental song of one of the strongest and most prominent regiment of the Indian Army, The Assam Regiment describes the story of Badluram. Not only every soldier of Assam Regiment but many people of northeast proudly sing “Badluram ka badan” commemorating the sacrificed lives of our beloved warriors

“Badluram ka badan zameen ke neeche hai, toh humko uska ration milta hai…..”, these lines are immortalized the legend of Badluram.
